A self-copying RNA molecule came much closer to reality

Researchers developed a small polymerase ribozyme capable of copying both itself and its complementary strand—one of the strongest experimental demonstrations yet supporting the "RNA world" hypothesis for the origin of life. It's a major step toward understanding how chemistry could have become biology.

The second-nearest potentially habitable planet was discovered

Astronomers identified GJ 887 d, a super-Earth orbiting within the habitable zone just 10.7 light-years away. While it isn't evidence of life, it's now among the highest-priority nearby worlds for future atmospheric studies.

Scientists transported antimatter by road for the first time

This sounds almost absurdly futuristic, but researchers successfully moved trapped antiprotons between facilities. It opens the door to experiments that were previously impossible because antimatter had to remain where it was produced.

The missing doubly charmed baron? Never heard of it. Who cares about our understanding of the bleeding strong nuclear force? I remember learning about some of this stuff at school and none of it ever seemed to have anything to do with our lives.

Now, the lithium batteries. This is real research! We've all got phones and other stuff that needs lithium batteries. If we want everyone to drive an electric car, then we've gotta get stronger ones, so yeah, scientists should be studying this.

Research in longevity? What a waste of time! If you want to live to be a hundred, do these things: eat well, exercise, control your stress and be lucky with avoiding terrible accidents. It's hardly rocket science, is it?

Aliens. Are we alone in the universe? (The) thing is, we don't know and we never will. Even if there is aliens out there, they're too far away. Forget about it!

I'm sick of hearing about global bloody warming. 0.2 degrees? 0.35 degrees? We're really worrying about fractions of degrees now? The planet has always gotten hotter and cooler. It's got absolutely nothing to do with us.
